Alois Daxinger (ÖVP) was involved in municipal politics in Innerschwandt for 30 years, the last 13 of which he was mayor. He resigned from office in October 2021. Now the 64-year-old has been awarded the Republic’s Gold Medal of Merit by Governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) for his political achievements.

Daxinger’s most visible legacy is the Kulmspitze observation tower, which has now become a popular excursion destination. He also secured affordable building land for the population through building land security contracts and significantly expanded the childcare offering. For Daxinger, cohesion within the population was just as important as within local politics. Two years ago he was made an honorary citizen of Innerschwand.
