On Tuesday, four people were taken out of the smoke-filled house in the municipality of Nes and were confirmed dead, operations manager Magnus Hovelsrud Andresen told reporters in the afternoon. Police chief Cecilie Lilaas-Skari later announced at a press conference that the dead all had a family connection to each other, including a person employed by the East Police District.

Police officer among the dead

It was a tragic incident and a hard day for police personnel. The newspaper “Dagbladet” had previously reported that a police officer was among the dead. Based on the injuries discovered, the current level of information and what was found on site, the police began a murder investigation. However, she did not assume that other people were involved in the case. Lilaas-Skari told TV 2 that they knew that three people had been killed and that it was suspected that the perpetrator had killed himself.

The municipality is located about 60 kilometers northeast of Oslo. Mayor Tove Nyhus told the NTB news agency that the four dead were all residents of the municipality.
