100 million euro grants approved in five minutes

It went smoothly again: after five minutes, in today’s city senate meeting, the financing of the city’s companies for the years 2022/23, an essential part of the double budget, was waved through with votes from the SPÖ and ÖVP and will be presented for a decision in the municipal budget council next Thursday .

Only the Greens abstained on all points – but not because they are completely against the financing, as City Councilor Eva Schobesberger emphasizes: “But we don’t want to discuss the individual points in the parliamentary group until Monday.” In the municipal budget council on Thursday the Greens will then agree to most of the points, but they will not vote for grants for security services – exactly 1,764,000 euros are earmarked for this in 2022, and 1,891,000 euros in 2023 – they will not vote.

As expected, FP City Councilor Michael Raml also nodded the majority – around 1,050,000 euros for City Management GmbH for the two years. Only with the grants for the Design Center – a total of two million – and those for the Linz museums Lentos and Nordico – there are planned 3,860,000 euros in 2022 and 4,060,000 euros in 2023 – there was a veto of the blues. “We will not agree to this in the municipal budget council either,” said Raml.

In total, the grants to municipal companies amount to 100,886,000 euros. As reported, according to the proposal for the double budget 2022/23, revenues of around 751 million euros and expenditures of 764.7 million euros are planned for 2022. In 2023, 781.9 million euros are expected to be raised and 785.1 million euros to be spent.
