Westring as a sticking point in Linz’s climate issues

“Linz is a pioneer in climate protection”: Under this motto, Mayor Klaus Luger (SP) and Climate City Councilor Eva Schobesberger (Greens) took stock yesterday of what has happened since the local council decided in 2019 for a comprehensive climate protection strategy. Linz is taking a pioneering role here, Salzburg or Graz are lagging behind, they emphasized.

However, the agreement between Luger and Schobesberger on climate issues is not absolute – this became clear, for example, at the Westring. This is in no way justifiable for Schobesberger; she argued that the construction of any kind of highway would counteract climate work. Luger doesn’t see it so dogmatically; he emphasized that the Westring would enable a reorganization of traffic flows, which would result in many urban development advantages. The local council will vote on the increase in the Westring subsidy tomorrow – a majority is considered fixed despite the Greens’ no vote.
