The clergyman was active as a pastor in Steyr for many years and celebrated services in St. Mary’s Church.
Pilz was born on April 18, 1932 in Königswiesen. After graduating from the humanistic high school in Freistadt, he entered the Jesuit novitiate in Sankt Andrä. He completed his usual religious studies in Pullach and Innsbruck, with an interruption at the Marian Congregation in Innsbruck.
After completing his studies, the Marian Congregation again became his pastoral field of activity in 1965, this time in Klagenfurt, where he remained active for the next 15 years. In addition to his responsibility for the Catholic Student Youth (KSJ) and his work in accompanying retreats, he also became president of the Marian Women’s Congregation in the Diocese of Gurk in 1968 and began his writing work with the highly acclaimed first volume of poetry “Where I am – I want to tell you”, as a result of which he became a member of the Carinthian Writers’ Association and the PEN Club. In 1971 he also became Superior and President of the Apostolate of Prayer. When the Jesuits withdrew from the KSJ in Klagenfurt in 1977, he worked in telephone counseling for three more years and then moved to Linz in 1980 as superior and church rector. In 1991 he became an economist and church rector in Innsbruck, in 1993 superior and ecclesiastical assistant of the Community of Christian Life in Vienna and from 1996 to 2005 again church rector in Linz. This was followed by 13 years of working in the St. Mary’s Church in Steyr, from where he moved again to Linz after the dissolution of the order’s convent and there in the old people’s and nursing home “Rudigier” placed his eventful life back in the hands of his Creator.
The requiem for the deceased will be celebrated on Thursday, January 25th, at 10:30 a.m. in the Old Cathedral / Ignatius Church in Linz; the burial will take place in the crypt of the Old Cathedral.
