In addition, 32 other corona deaths were added. More than 13,000 people have died as a result of an infection in Austria since the beginning of the pandemic. On Thursday, 627 seriously ill people had to be treated in intensive care units, a total of 2,813 infected people were in the hospital.
The 4,437 new cases are below the seven-day average of 5,456 new infections. The seven-day incidence per 100,000 population fell to 427.6. There were now 84,559 confirmed active cases in Austria. More than six million people had a valid vaccination certificate on Thursday. Almost 55,000 vaccinations were administered on the holiday.
A total of 2,813 infected people were in hospital on Thursday, 97 fewer than the day before. The number of hospital patients fell by 428 within a week. The intensive care units are still very busy. Shortly before the end of the lockdown in most of Austria, there were still 627 seriously ill patients in intensive care units, with 111 most of them in Upper Austria. Lower Austria reported Covid 19 patients to ICUs, Vienna 105 on Thursday.
The first confirmed cases occurred in Austria 654 days ago, on February 25, 2020. The first death was reported on March 12, 2020. Exactly 638 days later, 13,011 people died as a result of a coronavirus infection. In the past week alone, an average of 55.1 deaths were added each day, while 386 deaths were recorded in the past week. Per 100,000 inhabitants, 145.7 people have died of or with Covid-19 since the pandemic began.
In relation to the population, the most victims were in Styria (191.1 per 100,000 inhabitants) and in Carinthia (177.2 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants). Only Tyrol with 99.9 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants and Vorarlberg with 98.2 per 100,000 inhabitants recorded double-digit death rates shortly before the end of the fourth tough lockdown in Austria.
There have been 1,217,436 confirmed cases in Austria since the start of the pandemic. 1,119,866 people are considered to have recovered. Lower Austria reported the most new infections since Wednesday with 871, followed by 646 in Salzburg and 580 in Carinthia. Styria registered 558 more infected people, Vienna 535 and Tyrol 448. In Vorarlberg there were 334 confirmed new cases and in Burgenland 126.
A total of 372,659 rapid PCR and antigen tests were registered in the past 24 hours. Of these, 287,584 were meaningful PCR tests, 1.5 percent were positive. On average, 368,625 PCR samples were examined daily in the past week, 1.5 percent gave positive results.
Exactly 54,808 vaccinations were carried out on Wednesday. According to the data in the e-vaccination pass, a total of 6,433,967 residents have already received at least one vaccination. Exactly 6,054,754 people and thus 67.8 percent of Austrians have valid vaccination protection.
Of the 54,808 vaccinations on Wednesday, 5,849 were first stitches, that is 10.67 percent. 9,196 vaccinations were second stitches. The 39,763 third stitches on Wednesday made up 72.55 percent of all vaccinations.
The vaccination rates by age group: 62 percent of the 12 to 24 year olds have a valid vaccination certificate, in the 25 to 34 age group the rate is 67.8 percent and for the 35 to 44 year olds 72 percent. 75 percent of people between 45 and 54 years of age are demonstrably protected against Covid-19 with a certificate, 82.4 percent in the 55 to 64 group. The 65 to 74 year olds have a rate of 86.2 percent, the 75 percent up to 84-year-olds 89.9 percent and the group 85plus 86.1 percent. 0.9 percent is reported for children up to eleven years of age.
