“For us, transparency is not just a buzzword”

For the second time this year, the OÖN is awarding the Feronia Prize for sustainability and climate protection in four categories. The submission deadline for companies, clubs, initiatives or school classes for the four categories ends on Saturday, February 3rd. Applications are possible at nachrichten.at/feronia. The Rieder sportswear manufacturer Löffler has already submitted.

“We are working a lot on minimizing CO2 emissions so that we take the European Green Deal into account”says Löffler managing director Otto Leodolter. The company employs around 180 people at its location in Ried, which has existed since 1973. Around 100 additional employees sew together pattern pieces delivered in a newly built factory in the Bulgarian city of Tryavna. “We try to use as many materials as possible from Europe; the production steps take place exclusively in Ried and Bulgaria, i.e. in the EU”says Leodolter.

Löffler will soon present the second sustainability report. “We have collected a lot of data over the past three years and processed many of the 80 measures defined in the first sustainability report”says Leodolter. One of the big but complicated issues is keeping the material used for clothing in circulation.

We also try to keep transport routes as short and efficient as possible. For the spring and summer collection, the entire supply chain, from the fabric to the finished product, can be tracked via the website. “For us, transparency is not just a buzzword, because a transparent supply chain is the key to a sustainable product”emphasizes Leodolter.

A PV system on the company roof is a given, “but it requires many other measures, such as machines with reduced energy requirements. We are constantly dealing with these issues. We also want to develop solutions on how we can reduce CO2 emissions when employees travel”says Leodolter.
