A group of committed volunteers wants to give new life to neighborhood help in Offenhausen: the association “Time bank plus” wants to encourage community residents to help each other out in everyday life.
This serves as the basis “Time bank plus”-App, which is provided by an umbrella organization with several member communities in Styria as well as Upper and Lower Austria. People can register here and offer a wide variety of services: delivery and collection services, small jobs around the house or even the graphic design of a birthday invitation. “Under no circumstances should it be about replacing service providers”says community leader Manfred Zaunbauer, “The aim is to strengthen cohesion in the community.”
The annual fee is 36 euros, but there are ten “Time bank vouchers”. These can then be exchanged for the various assistance services offered. “We also hope that the exchange between generations will be strengthened. A young boy helps an older man operate electrical devices. The older one takes care of the children for a moment”explains Zaunbauer.
The voucher system has the advantage that no one has to feel guilty about using the support services. In addition to the app, there will also be a small physical booklet in Offenhausen with the help offered to make access easier for older community citizens.
27 people were on site at the founding event, nine of whom now form the board under chairwoman Doris Mang, who is extremely pleased: “Through mutual exchange of time and skills, a social network is created that benefits all members of the community.”
The club now wants one as a big project “food on wheels”campaign in Offenhausen, Zaunbauer explains: “So far, this has repeatedly failed due to implementation. Now we have a pool of volunteers with whom we can hopefully get things moving.”
