a security breach allowed an armed employee to enter Congress

The man – whom the Congressional Police identified as Jeffrey Allsbrooks (57), a member of the staff of the Administrative Office of the Head of the Chamber – was able to enter the Capitol even though the X-ray machine at the checkpoint detected a weapon in her bag.

The employee later alleged to the police that he had accidentally left the gun in his bag.

However, the security breach was noticed and the Allsbrooks was arrested four minutes later, a time not much shorter than the typical duration of mass shootings in the United States.

This Thursday there were several authorities in the Rotunda of Congress, including the president Joe Biden, for the presentation of the memorial of the late Republican legislator Bob Dole.

The incident occurred almost a year after a violent coup on January 6 by a mob of supporters of the then Republican president. Donald Trump in an attempt to avoid certification of Democrat Biden’s victory in the presidential election.
