The company Triple Impact appeared in the controversy over the sale of land in Ballena Point, Maldonado –where the neighbors and even the mayor oppose its commercialization–, as a kind of solution from the private sector to preserve the A natural space where 37 residential towers are intended to be built.
In dialogue with Ambit, the founder of the company, Maximiliano Canasexplained how they could save the land from being used for the construction of 320 apartments, with a business model that is a success in Europe among investors who want to participate in the conservation of natural spaces.
—What is Triple Impact about?
We are responsible for preserving or conserving lands in perpetuity. That is, we specifically choose land that are exploited or about to explode. In this way, we carry out an analysis with our professionals and technicians of the entire biodiversity – which we understand may be at risk – and we began to develop a plan, through decentralization, to be able to acquire it and then preserve it.
Within Triple Impact We have two models. The first, called B2C, who are end users who buy a kind of “access key” to the project where they can access all the content that happens during the conservation process through photos, high definition videos, in-person and virtual visits, games and experiences in addition to the certificate that they were part of the conservation of a natural space.
On the other hand, there are also packs called B2B which are intended for companies, have content similar to the other model, but adapted to the client, in conjunction with green marketing reflected with the commitment to sustainable development in the midst of the effects caused by the climate change.
—What is the economic model like and what is the benefit that investors have?
We use the blockchain, What is the technology of cryptocurrencies, but we have nothing to do with it. Digital parcels are access keys and we use the blockchain or cryptography system to maintain transparency, immutability and transparently show everything that is done to people.
This is important since there are many companies that work with cryptocurrencies, that talk about economic benefits, about market fluctuations, about resale of plots. We resell the plots to ourselves and these do not have economic benefitmore than the subscription to the experience.
— The Punta Ballena project generated rejection from neighbors and even the mayor, Enrique Antía. Given this, what will be the role of Triple Impacto in relation to this controversial initiative?
We want to be the tool In order to solve the problem, for almost a quarter we have been participating in all the meetings and analysis and it is a very difficult case since the real estate group has a certain authorization for the project presented and within the department of Maldonado received unanimous approval.
The company’s objective is to buy the territory from the private sector and donate the land to the National System of Protected Areas (SNAP). In this sense, we had four meetings with the Ministry of Environment to evaluate this possibility and the undersecretary, Gerardo Amarilla, He mentioned us as the company that could buy the land. We would become a kind of tool between society and the private sector that wants to build there.
On the other hand, if you get the land, The conditions should be modified to be able to preserve this natural space in perpetuity because the municipality has the power to put certain lands in trust and be able to sell them in the future.
—How are you going to access the purchase of Punta Ballena?
For the specific case of Ballena Point, we are not going to apply the model B2B, which is the impact packs, for an issue that at the biodiversity level is not immense Punta Ballena. In that sense, the money of the digital plots, of decentralization, will be used purely and exclusively for the purchase of the territory. And then, SNAP is going to take care of it.
That is, there are 19 hectares that are going to be divided into plots in square meter bringing together a total of 19,000 plots that will be sold to meet the objective of collecting the value of money, buying it and then selling it.
—What is the acceptance of the neighbors regarding this project?
We did a survey where we surveyed more than 300 people and there is a complete interest for contributing money. We have even spoken with people who told us that they are willing to put in much more money than the value of a plot. With this, we have a investigation in a very detailed document that we will make available in due course.
Punta Ballena is a social sanctuary, it is a space that has one of the best natural beauty in the world. With everyone you talk to, who has traveled the planet Earth, they talk about the sunsets of Punta Ballena, the tranquility, the energetic charge of the place, and all that would be lost. So, many people who live there, with very high purchasing power, and even companies, are willing to set a much higher value than the one we are going to define in a digital plot.
