The connection will soon become safer and more attractive for cyclists and pedestrians who want to get onto the Linz West Bridge from Unionstrasse: This was announced by the state and city traffic officers – State Councilor Günther Steinkellner (FP) and Deputy Mayor Martin Hajart (VP) – today at. The starting signal for the construction of a new cycle path ramp on the West Bridge should be given in March 2024.

The project will cost around 350,000 euros, which the state and city each want to share half. The planned combined walking and cycle path will lead over the bridge and then to the Waldeggstrasse cycle path, so that safe use will be possible until the planned new construction of the West Bridge – according to Asfinag, probably in 2034/35 – as part of the Westring. The existing staircase for pedestrians remains.

This will create a solution for at least the next ten years that will enable safe use of the West Bridge for gentle mobility, Steinkellner and Hajart continued.

The West Bridge had only become an issue again a few days ago – the Greens are lobbying the local council on Thursday with a motion to remedy the deficiencies for cyclists on the way from Waldeggstrasse towards Unionstrasse and to implement an interim solution on the West Bridge (the OÖN reported). However, the required interim solution was already announced by the state in May of last year – in the form of the said ramp.
