Not surprisingly, the Linz local council decided on Thursday to increase the city of Linz’s subsidy for the Westring. According to the financing agreement, the city must cover five percent of the costs. Since these have increased from 892 million to 1.416 billion euros compared to the estimated costs from 2020, as reported, Linz’s share increases from 43.6 million to 67.6 million euros (all amounts including VAT).
The green light was given for the necessary development plan change in the area of Herrenstrasse 25, where the Brothers of Mercy would like to build a center for developmental medicine and early autism intervention.
Video controversy
The demand for video surveillance at the Krempl high-rise was controversially discussed. As reported, the VP wanted the city to fund police cameras in order to get the drug trade there under control. The SPÖ and FPÖ countered with a resolution for what they saw as the responsible Interior Minister, Gerhard Karner (VP), who had apparently signaled his willingness to do so in the National Council – the resolution was accepted by a majority, but the VP’s motion was rejected. It was also decided to hold the Stream Festival and the pavement spectacle.
The SPÖ and FPÖ failed to publish control office reports; there was also no majority for a reform of the design advisory board, higher parking fees for larger cars and a speed limit of 60 on the city motorway.
