The managing director of Breuer & Schimpfhuber Gastrotechnik needed 40 hours and 56 minutes to do this. The start and finish were in Silvi Marina on the Adriatic coast near Pescara. On the two racing days, Schimpfhuber only allowed himself 45 minutes of rest and sleep twice.
He took on the hardships for eight-year-old Jannik Schäfer. He suffers from the very rare disease Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The treatment is poorly researched, very expensive and time-consuming. When Schimpfhuber found out about this, he had a resolution: He wanted to generate a monetary donation for Jannik from a combination of kilometers driven and meters in altitude across Italy. After crossing the finish line, this resulted in the impressive sum of 5,625 euros.
At a celebration at the Gasthof Alpenblick, he presented the check to Jannik and his parents. For her it was a touching gift because this sum secures further treatments for a hopeful future.
