It’s a wild journey into all possible corners of life that childhood friends Philipp, Adele, Hjörtur and Milena offer on their debut album. Stylistically, it’s never really possible to fully grasp it, but it creates a musically colorful picture that you don’t grasp at first glance in all its bizarre beauty. It takes a while to find your way around the world of Endless Wellness.
On the one hand, the Viennese simply open the door and stand in the middle of the room to get straight to the point, uncompromisingly. “I don’t want to be a polar bear, I want a future,” it says in “Thanks for Everything,” and the bitter sarcasm is paired with groovy guitars. Listen, the music plays here, that could be the motto.
Wild and also quiet
“Newborn, Baby” also comes across as wild, “Vom Hals bis zum Zeiße” seduces with a pulsating sound and almost anthemic singing, and “Hand in the Face” is a punky, high-speed song about the human inner life. But Endless Wellness can also do it quietly, vulnerably, intensively. “Haven’t got it like that” is a profound plea for the individuality of the individual, a call to be more merciful to oneself.
You can consider it lucky that this band found each other. How naturally they incorporate Bryan Adams and his summer from 1969 into “Thanks for Everything” is great art.
Anyone who would like to experience the band live will have the opportunity to do so on February 3rd at the 7th edition of WurstvomHundBall in the Stadtwerkstatt in Linz. The Viennese will also play there, alongside others.
