While things will get serious for the cup quarter-finalists in a week, Blau-Weiß Linz still has a little more time before the start of the competitive game: the Bundesliga starts in Altach on February 10th. Coach Gerald Scheiblehner’s team will be in the training camp in Side until Monday. The final test on Sunday will be against Gornik Zabrze – and against a world champion.
Lukas Podolski, now 38 years old, won the title with Germany at the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil. He watched the final (1-0 after extra time against Argentina) from the bench, as did four other games. He only had the ball in the group games against Portugal (4-0) and the USA (1-0).
Podolski played his 130th and last international match against England in 2017 (1-0), and there is no end in sight for Zabrze: In the summer of 2021, the veteran moved to the country in which he was born, and he recently extended his contract until 2025.
Ronivaldo’s comeback?
“It’s always fun to play against a world champion,” says Gerald Scheiblehner, who raves about the conditions in Turkey: “The sun shines for Blue and White every day.”
Before the final test takes place – a short comeback by Ronivaldo and a deployment of the questionable Michael Brandner will be decided at short notice – every player has to compete with Scheiblehner on Saturday: In individual discussions there will also be individual video analysis.
