Seven young composers will spend several days between February and June in the tower room of St. Mary’s Cathedral and compose at a height of 68 meters. They come from Austria and Germany and were selected by a jury. The composition workshop offers young composers the extraordinary opportunity for intensive exchange with professional musicians as well as an exciting compositional experience for their (sound) artistic career.

In the footsteps of Anton Bruckner

It starts with a workshop from February 9th to 11th with sound artist Sam Auinger, cathedral organist Wolfgang Kreuzhuber and cathedral music director Andreas Peterl, who will take the young people not only on Anton Bruckner’s footsteps to Ansfelden, St. Florian and Linz as well as into the depths of his musical work , but also wants to make St. Mary’s Cathedral tangible with its auditory qualities and in all its dimensions.

The highlight is the premiere of the works created for and in St. Mary’s Cathedral by the renowned vocal ensemble Cantando Admont in October. The project was developed by the Bischof Rudigier Foundation on the occasion of the anniversaries “100 Years of Mariendom Linz” and “200 Years of Anton Bruckner”.
