According to police, the man had taken a tour of the snow bell with a companion. On the way back from the summit, around midday, a crack suddenly appeared in the snow cover, causing the man to fall with a large snow cornice, while his companion was able to jump out of the danger zone.
The 54-year-old fell with the masses of snow over around 400 meters through rocky terrain and was buried by the avalanche at the foot of the wall. The emergency doctor could only determine that he was dead.
