The treatment of cancer in children often results in long hospital stays and is often accompanied by life-threatening complications and significant side effects. This state of emergency becomes an extreme stress test for the entire family – normal family life is temporarily wiped out. “The psychosocial aspects associated with cancer are crucial and go far beyond medical treatment”says Monika Kern, head of the clinical social work department at Kepler University Hospital.
