SOS Children’s Villages International is cutting 100 jobs – 40 of them in Austria

A spokesman confirmed a report from ORF Tirol to the APA on Wednesday. In total, SOS Children’s Villages International employed more than 690 people, meaning around 15 percent of employees were affected by the layoffs. It was assured that the wave of layoffs will have no impact on SOS Children’s Villages Austria or its employees.

SOS Children’s Villages Austria is an independent or independent organization from SOS Children’s Villages International, explained Bertil Videt, Head of Global Communications. The programs there are therefore not affected by the measures.

The terminations became necessary due to the constantly increasing expenses caused by inflation and at the same time weaker income due to the declining willingness to donate. “The global financial uncertainties are disproportionately affecting non-profit organizations that rely on donations,” Ingrid Johansen, managing director of SOS Children’s Villages International, told the online edition of the “Tiroler Tageszeitung”.

There will be a social plan that is intended to support employees with children, single earners, single parents and people over the age of 45 and that is “far above the legal requirements in Austria,” emphasized Videt. In any case, the financial situation is tense. According to ORF, the union and the staff council criticized the lack of transparency.

In the long term, the aim is to change the direction. According to the organization, the transformation is primarily about focusing more on the “global south”. In recent years, over 40 member states have become financially independent through donations in their respective countries. This structure should be continued and expanded.
