Hunting is becoming increasingly popular in Upper Austria, as the current numbers of hunting cards issued show: While 20,224 hunters had a valid hunting card in 2022/23, in the current hunting season – from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024 – there are a total of 20,813.

“We are obviously becoming more and more successful in drawing a realistic and positive image of our diverse work to the general public and thus getting many compatriots interested in hunting in the long term,” says Upper Austria’s state hunter Herbert Sieghartsleitner, enthusiastic about the increase.
Anyone who wants to hunt in Upper Austria must be in good standing, physically and mentally healthy, currently of legal age and pass a two-part hunting test.
