Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel is about to publish her autobiography. The ex-chancellor will prepare the publication together with Beate Baumann, who previously served as her adviser, Spiegel reported on December 10.
In addition, Merkel is not going to involve other authors in writing her autobiography, the adviser explained.
Merkel will not use the help of journalists, “ghost authors” and historians, she said. Baumann estimates that the preparation of the manuscript will take about three years.
At the same time, as Baumann emphasized, it is not planned to involve other authors in the creation of the biography.
“The Chancellor does not want to tell his whole life. She would like to explain the main political decisions in her own words and based on her own life path, ”Baumann emphasized.
Among the issues that the ex-chancellor intends to cover in the book, the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the migration and financial crises were named.
Earlier, on December 8, Social Democrat Olaf Scholz replaced Merkel as head of state following a vote in the Bundestag. So, 395 deputies voted for the politician. At least 369 out of 736 deputies should have been in favor of Scholz’s approval as the new chancellor.
Parliamentary elections in Germany took place on 26 September. Angela Merkel did not nominate herself. The SPD won the elections with 25.7% of the vote, followed by the CDU / CSU bloc with 24.1%. In third place is the Green Party with 14.8%. The next were representatives of the Free Democratic Party with 11.5%, followed by the “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) with 10.3%.
