Transportation costs rose 1.7% in January

The Uruguayan Transportation Costs Index showed increases that represented 3.7% year-on-year.

He Center for Innovation in Industrial Organization (CINOI) of the University of Montevideo published the index of Uruguay Transportation Costs and determined an increase of 1.7% during the month of January.

The center is financed by the Logistics and Transportation Cluster of the Pacpymes program and the ITPC and the index has been updated monthly since 2009.

The index includes different factors that correspond to the transportation cost. Among them are the covers, he fuel, labor, insurance, financial costsamortization, maintenance and other costs.

According to what was published, during the month of January the cost Transportation rose 1.7%, that is, 0.2% in dollars. Meanwhile, the year-on-year increase represented a total of 3.7%.

Increases in interdepartmental transportation

At the end of December last year, a 4.5% increase in the price of the interdepartmental ticket was announced. The measure was ordered by the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP), in a decree that was signed by the president Luis Lacalle Pou.

In this way, the rate of interdepartmental buses increased since the beginning of this year, after the average increase of 3.2% applied in September, under the argument of the increase in the salary agreements.

In the text, the Executive considered that there is “an additional percentage increase in the respective passenger kilometer value”, noting that “it is necessary to contemplate the gap between the rate increase of September 2023 and the salary increases of July 2023.” There it is explained that the additional ones will remain in force from January 2024 to June 2024 included.”
