Uruguay paid US8M in export tariffs in 2022

Uruguay paid 538 million dollars in duty for export throughout the year 2022, a figure that, although high compared to previous years, is attributed to the record of national placements during that year.

According to the latest monthly foreign trade report prepared by the government agency Uruguay XXIcorresponding to the current month of January, this is because the tariff burden follows a similar trend to that of the exports.

Beef paid more than $305 million in tariffs during 2022

In the breakdown, the payment of duty by beef was 306.1 million dollars, leading the ranking of goods, followed by dairy products with 38 million dollars and soybeans, which completes the podium with 33.3 million dollars.

The main destinations that were paid duty were China, with 263.8 million dollars; the European Union (EU)with 73 million dollars; USAwith 46.3 million dollars; Japanwith 19 million dollars; Algeriawith 15.7 million dollars; Türkiyewith 15 million dollars; United Kingdom, with 11 million dollars; and Russia with 9 million dollars.

China, the United States and the EU represented 71% of the total duty subscribers, at the same time that they represented 49% of the exports during this period.
