The fire broke out in the carpentry workshop in the Gmunden district around 1:55 p.m. on Thursday. The first fire departments were alerted shortly before 2 p.m., and a total of 9 responded. The operation was still ongoing on Thursday afternoon. “The fire is under control and fortunately there are no injuries,” said Mayor Ingo Dörflinger (ÖVP) in an interview with nachrichten.at in the afternoon.
The emergency services were able to protect the outbuildings, only one hall was affected, said the mayor.
The cause of the fire is now known. It was clearly a malfunction of a fully automatic milling machine, as a fire investigator determined on Friday morning. According to the police, the milling machine and the material lying on it caught fire due to the resulting frictional heat or flying sparks. The material damage caused is in the seven-figure euro range.
