The situation around the planned Wiener Stadtstrasse is coming to a head: yesterday the city turned directly to those activists who were occupying construction sites in the Danube city, for example around Hausfeldstrasse. A letter is sent in which they are asked to leave the construction site.
The city is urging environmentalists protesting the road construction to abandon camp. The police were there on Thursday and asked those present to clear the accommodations. An official letter from the city has now been submitted. The city street is a connection between the Seestadt Aspern and the Südosttangente.

The activists in the camp are also informed in the letter from the City of Vienna that the responsible transport minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) has not stopped the construction of the city street and the subsequent Spange Aspern – in contrast to the Lobau tunnel, which Gewessler greatly to the displeasure of the Viennese mayor Michael Ludwig (SP) does not want to build.
The city street will also be built with multiple lanes, but formally it is not a motorway. Rather, the 3.2 kilometer long connection is a municipal road with a top speed of 50 km / h – which is why the city is also building it. The environmental activists are not impressed by the actions of the city for the time being. One was determined to stay, it was said yesterday. “We are ready for everything that comes from the city. The occupations will remain until the city motorway is also canceled,” assured Lena Schilling from the youth council. The Vienna Chamber of Commerce has again submitted a legal opinion on the halted construction of the Lobau tunnel. This comes to the conclusion that the decision of the Ministry of the Environment was made “arbitrarily and without any legal basis”.
