Protests erupt in Argentina after teenager is killed by police

Spontaneous protests erupted in the Argentine city of Miramar in the province of Buenos Aires after a 16-year-old Luciano Oliver was shot dead by a police officer. This was reported on December 10 by the Todo Noticias TV channel.

As noted in the material, residents of the city gathered on one of the streets to demand a thorough investigation of the incident and justice against the Buenos Aires police officer.

The protests began peacefully, the residents of the province, including friends, relatives and acquaintances of the murdered teenager, with claps called on the public and government agencies to pay attention to the incident.

However, after 20:00 (02:14 Moscow time) it became known that the protesters had thrown stones at law enforcement officers, as well as at the police station. In addition, protesters threw bottles, set fire to street objects and smashed windows in city halls.. The officers responded by firing rubber bullets and using tear gas.

Luciano Oliver would have been killed early Friday morning in Miramar. A 16-year-old teenager escaped from a police checkpoint, where they wanted to ask him something. According to friends who were with him, law enforcement officers began to chase. One of the police officers shot him.

Buenos Aires police officer Maximiliano Gonzalez was charged with murder and detained. According to the first police report, he said he “missed.” Later, a video recording of the moment the crime was committed was released: two shots are heard on it.

He was returning from celebrating the end of the football season with his Once Unidos teammates.

This is the second case of the murder of a teenager by a law enforcement officer in Argentina in the past month. So, on November 18, the police shot and killed 17-year-old player of the football club “Barracas Central” Lucas Gonzalez.

The incident took place on November 17 in the Barracas area. The police opened fire on the car in which the football player was driving along with his friends. The police report said that the car rammed a patrol car when they tried to stop it at an intersection.

At least two bullets were fired into Gonzalez, one of which hit the head. The young footballer died in the hospital the next day.

At the same time, according to relatives, Gonzalez and his friends increased their speed, because they thought that unknown people wanted to attack them, because the police were in civilian clothes.
