61-year-old died after brutal attack in Pocking: intensive search for the perpetrator

The police are using this video sequence to search for the suspected violent perpetrator.

The video sequence is eight seconds long and shows the Lower Bavaria Police Headquarters, together with the Passau Criminal Investigation Department, intensively searching for a previously unknown man. The suspected perpetrator can be seen on it – the police estimate his age to be 60 years old. The man is said to be responsible for the death of a 61-year-old from Pockingen.

It’s Friday, October 6th, in Pocking, near the border, where many Innviertel residents like to go shopping. At around 7 p.m., an unknown man struck the rear window of a car at an intersection in the center of the city of 15,000 people twice, in which 61-year-old Pockinger Konrad E. and his wife were sitting.

The couple is on the way to nearby Bad Griesbach, where they have arranged to meet friends for dinner. The man parks the car, wants to know what happened and confronts the unknown man. According to the wife’s statements and witness reports, he struck the 61-year-old in the stomach with two powerful punches, who then collapsed, but quickly got up again in order to pursue the attacker and identify him.

Meanwhile, he calls the police and briefly calls his wife. What happened in the minutes that followed is unclear. The 61-year-old was briefly found lying on the street in the immediate vicinity of the “IO caffè+bar” and a roundabout with serious injuries and covered in blood.

Half an hour of resuscitation

“That evening he basically died on the street for the first time. My father was resuscitated there for half an hour,” says Patrick W., the victim’s son, in an interview with OÖNachrichten.

With life-threatening injuries, the man from Pockingen, who became a grandfather for the first time a few weeks before the brutal act, was taken to the hospital in Rotthalmünster, where he was put into an artificial coma. All efforts by the doctors in Rotthalmünster and then at the Munich University Hospital to save the Pockingen man failed. On Tuesday, October 24th, he died as a result of his serious injuries.

The search by the criminal police and public prosecutor’s office in Passau is in full swing. Photos of the alleged perpetrator taken by surveillance cameras were repeatedly published to the public. This week wanted posters will be distributed in the Pocking area. “The extensive investigations into the unknown person have not yet led to any concrete suspicions,” says a current press release. It is now hoped that new insights will come from the publication of the video sequence in which the suspect can be seen walking across a business parking lot in Pocking.

“As a family, we have offered a reward of 5,000 euros for information that leads to the capture of the perpetrator,” says the 39-year-old son of the deceased. “We are sure that several people drove past my father, who was seriously injured. We are also convinced that there are witnesses to the incident. The perpetrator may have gone into hiding and is being protected by other people. Hopefully witnesses will come forward “So that the perpetrator is arrested and subsequently sentenced in court,” says Patrick W. The solidarity and sympathy for his father’s death was overwhelming. “It would be very, very important for us that the man who is responsible for my father’s death is caught. Someone who approaches strangers with such aggressiveness and attacks them is extremely dangerous.”

The mourning for the popular and helpful Pockinger is still great. A completely incomprehensible act without any reason deprived the family of their beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather. “There were several hundred people at the funeral. My father always only looked at people. He didn’t care where someone came from or what status they had. The perpetrator must be caught, we owe it to him,” says Patrick W.
