A spokeswoman for the Berlin criminal courts announced this on Tuesday upon request. Three men and a woman were given suspended sentences of two years for grievous bodily harm. In addition, they each have to pay a fine of 5,000 euros as compensation for pain and suffering. The two men from Berlin and the siblings from Baden-Württemberg confessed in the trial before the Berlin district court in Tiergarten that they had kicked and hit the television crew on May 1, 2020. Confession as a condition for probation sentences
The confession of the defendant, aged 28 to 34, who had no previous convictions, was a prerequisite for the court to impose suspended sentences. The parties involved had agreed on this before the trial began, as the court announced at the time.
At the time, the six-person television team was on assignment for the ZDF satirical format “heute-show” and reported on the demonstration, which was directed against the German government’s Corona measures. Suddenly a group of masked people rushed towards the reporters. The journalists and security guards were injured, some seriously.
Others involved unknown
After complicated investigations, the convicts were identified. However, other people involved remained unknown. From the court’s perspective, the background to the attack could no longer be clarified. According to the German Association of Journalists (DJV), the attack was the most serious attack on journalists in Germany in 2020.
