Decorator Lore Lager has stowed 3,000 colorful tulips in her car from a gardener from Lower Austria – a sea of spring flowers that are intended to add decorative freshness to the gala night of sports on Friday. “While other balls are decorated lavishly and very beautifully, for sporting events it is important to remain neutral, down-to-earth and relaxed. Tulips are ideal for this,” says the experienced decorator.
“This year we decided on a more minimalist decoration style – based on the Bauhaus style, which also runs through the Upper-O-Lounge. And the many colorful tulips also reflect a certain spring-like lightness,” says Petra Horn from the event agency “The Crew For You”, which is helping to organize the gala evening.
Challenge until the gala
This assessment is also shared by Karin Groiss, decorator at the Deko Sisters, who focus primarily on the entrance area in the Brucknerhaus and the bar table arrangements: “With a few branches and moss, the tulips are really showcased and can develop over the course of the evening. That’s also what’s characteristic about tulips: They often turn in different directions, grow a little further – they have a will of their own.”
This year, great emphasis is placed on regional origins and the idea of sustainability. “The tulips come almost exclusively from Austrian production and are freshly cut, so they last even better. After the gala night, they are passed on to students at the HTL, who can also use the tulips for an event,” says Lager.
Until the gala evening, the decorator’s job is to take the right measures for the tulips to maintain their freshness: “Out of the cooling, into the cooling, fresh water – these are the challenges with the tulips.”
