The best Austrian was Ramona Siebenhofer, who was fifth and the only one from the red-white-red team to crack the top ten. Top favorite Lara Gut-Behrami fell in a left turn after the steep slope.
The Swiss woman shot over the barriers at high speed in the lower part of the Corviglia slope, but was back on her feet a short time later. The winner of the Super-G drove down to the finish on Saturday to great cheers. For the time being, nothing was known about any injuries.
In contrast to the previous day, which was dominated by bad weather, the sun was clear on Sunday. However, strong gusts of wind cause problems, especially higher up. They made sure that the jury gave up the actual Super-G start and activated the reserve start, which means that the race started 45 minutes later.
Due to the lower start, the subsequent passages lacked speed, which meant that the approach planned after the tour had to be adapted. In addition, the wind remained a problem further down. “There’s a lot of tailwind today,” said Tamara Tippler, who misjudged a goal and was eliminated.
In addition, the wind blew the top layer of snow. It was extremely difficult to hit the perfect line. Christine Scheyer also fought and finally missed a goal. “You just can’t see anything,” the Vorarlberg resident annoyed afterwards.
But the conditions were constant, at least the higher start numbers had no disadvantage. This was shown, for example, by the New Zealander Alice Robinson with number 26 in fourth place – her best Super-G result. Or Siebenhofer, who finished fifth with number 31. “Yesterday I was a bit grumpy, I messed up the whole race with one goal,” said the Styrian. “I knew I could be at the front. It’s cool that it was enough for such a good place.” Cornelia Hütter took 12th place.
The dominant nation in the Engadine this time was Italy. Brignone was one of five Italians in the top nine, Sofia Goggia had to be content with sixth place. Shiffrin was the only one again on the podium like 24 hours before, when she was also third.
