The family lived in the house in the town of East Lansdowne, said District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer on Wednesday evening (local time). Nothing is currently known about the whereabouts of six to eight family members.

The police were called to the house in the afternoon because shots had allegedly been fired at an eleven-year-old girl on the street. When the police arrived at the scene, a gunman immediately opened fire from inside the apartment building. Two police officers were shot and taken to the hospital.

“I don’t know if they’re dead”
A fire eventually broke out in the house for reasons that are still unclear. “Our fear is that there are multiple people in this house,” Stollsteimer said. “I don’t know if they’re dead.” He made it clear that the emergency services would only be able to search for the missing people in the building on Thursday morning (local time) because it was still on fire.
It also initially remained unclear whether the reports about the alleged shots at the girl were correct. The entire street was evacuated. The background to the incident was initially unclear.
