The new strategy is accompanied by a renaming of the chatbot Bard. The tool, released almost a year ago, is now also called Gemini. In addition to the already known web service, Gemini will also be available as a mobile application in the future. There is a separate app for Android devices, and Gemini is integrated into the Google app on iOS devices. Gemini was previously the name of the language model behind the chatbot Bard.
The company announced the renaming at a media event on Wednesday. Google also provided a concrete application example. For example, if you discover a punctured tire on your car, you can take a photo of it and then upload it to the Gemini or Google app. Gemini then gives tips on what should be done.
Today, Thursday, Google is also releasing Gemini Advanced. The service has additional functions and is integrated into Google’s Google One payment subscription, so it is chargeable. The new tariff with which customers get access to Gemini Advanced is called Google One AI Premium and costs 21.99 euros per month.
Gemini should also find its way into the world of work. Google’s work AI – previously known as Duet AI – is getting a new name and will in future be called “Gemini for Google Workspace and Google Cloud”. Users will soon be able to use Gemini as an AI assistant in Google services such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets or Meet.
Availability of the new services
- Gemini as an app: The English-language app will be available in the USA from February 8th. The application will be rolled out worldwide in the coming weeks.
- Google One AI Premium (subscription including Gemini Advanced): The new subscription tariff will be available from February 8th.
