School practice in the Chancellor’s box

20 students from the fourth year of the Bad Leonfelden Tourism Schools (BaLeTour) also contributed to the success of this year’s Opera Ball: They provided a 20-person service team at the ball event in the State Opera and were not only responsible for the hospitality in the Gustav Mahler Hall, but also in the honorary boxes of the Federal Chancellor as well as the Labor and Foreign Ministers.

“It was a great experience. The time flew by,” says Samuel Rockenschaub about the night’s work in tailcoats and white cloth gloves. “It was very stressful at times because there were so many guests coming in and out of the chancellery that I was assigned to, so fresh glasses were constantly needed,” says the tourism student from Unterweitersdorf. Marlene Pöppl was at his side to ensure the well-being of the Chancellor’s guests: “I’m only now really aware of how many prominent people we saw up close that evening. But they were all very nice to us.” The tips collected, which are distributed fairly among the entire BaLeTour team, are also impressive.

The students learned a lot during their assignment, which only ended after cleaning up and thus in the early morning hours. Rockenschaub: “I was impressed by the logistics and the precise planning of the work processes behind this major event.” Most of the students also wore tailcoats for the first time. Teacher Stefan Sigmund: “Before we started work at the opera, we checked to make sure everyone was dressed correctly. There was also a hairstyle check for the girls. Nothing was left to chance. But our team did really well throughout the night That was confirmed to me several times and I told them that in the first debriefing over a small beer after work.”
