The man had filled a gasoline mixture from a plastic canister into a bottle in his living room and smoked it. When he spilled some of the mixture on the living room floor, embers from the cigarette fell to the floor, causing a flash of flames. The man’s attempt to extinguish the fire failed; together with his 27-year-old partner and a 23-year-old friend of the couple, he escaped outside uninjured.
The living room was completely burned out, the rest of the apartment was badly damaged and is no longer habitable, the police said in a release.
