The tradition of the Sierninger Rudentanz dates back to 1732. Since then, on Shrove Tuesdays as part of the Rudenkirtag, the Traunviertler Ruden have presented their country folk, while singing and dancing to mock local, national and global political and social events and oops. These cheeky eight-line songs not only attract a lot of audiences and celebrities to the Rudensaal and the Forsthof, they have also been recognized as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO since 2013.

Nine groups of dogs in action

This year there are nine groups of dogs who want to score points with their dances and sung songs from 10 a.m. And since a lot has happened in Sierningen’s local events this year, the eight-liners are likely to be particularly explosive for some people this time.

The traditional start is a service at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierning parish church. The Neuzeuger Messerer-Rud will particularly underline its 30th anniversary at the Rudentanz with the musical design of the fair. The special connection between religion and folk culture is expressed through the mass celebration in Upper Austrian dialect.

However, many of the visitors are not so much drawn to the Forsthof and the Rudensaal, but rather to the numerous fair stands with exhibitors from Austria and neighboring countries, many of whom have been coming to Sierning for generations. The fair begins at 9 a.m. The heated festival tent will also be open from 1 p.m. on Shrove Tuesday. From 4 p.m. onwards, the Mostland Strikers will heat up the visitors during the carnival “final act”.

This year, for the first time, the children’s friends are contributing a children’s program for all ages: Punch and Judy will come to the foyer of the Citizens’ Service at 2 and 3:30 p.m., a children’s carnival will take place in the municipal council hall from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the artificial ice rink will be an ice disco with face painting for children from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. before the JUZ decibel takes over the ice rink.
