The Kluntex Lumber sawmill estimates that the venture will generate about 100 new jobs, something that was celebrated by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM), Walter Verriwho stated that they will be added to the 25,000 that were generated during the current government.

“This is the Uruguay what we want, the one who invests against the border of Brazilin the forestry heart of the country,” Verri said at a press conference on Friday. In addition to the undersecretary, present during the inauguration were Mayor of Rivera, Richard Sander; the head of the government agency Uruguay XXI, Sebastian Risso; and the CEO of the company, Ernest Wagner.
For Verri, the announcement was possible thanks to having “a stable country”, which “many years ago” decided to bet on forestation, more precisely in 1987. “That bet on forestation that continued, regardless of the governments that succeeded later, it made it today the main export sector of the Uruguay“, he indicated in reference to cellulose.
“This government was strongly committed to working on the mechanical transformation of wood,” said the official from the Executive power. “It hurt us a lot to see the pine rolls go away in the boats and trucks that pass along the route so that other hands of other workers could add value,” he noted.
“When we took over we were coming off some pretty bad years”
On the other hand, the undersecretary expressed that, when the government took office, the country was coming from “some pretty bad years” among which “50,000 jobs had been lost.”
“As if that were not enough, on March 13 (2020), thirteen days after taking office, the president has to declare a health emergency with the paralysis of the world and of Uruguaytoo,” he commented.
Finally, he remarked that “with 50,000 jobs lost and the country paralyzed, the perspective was not very great,” but that, nevertheless, the employment rate recovered and inflation levels are “the lowest in recent years.” years”, as well as the level of foreign investmentdespite going through a historic drought and other crises.
