The change of ministers will be known on March 4

After the revelation of who will be the replacement of the minister of Defending, Javier GarciaPresident Luis Lacalle Pou assured that the changes of the hierarchs have already been defined and that they will be announced on March 4, after the general Assembly in it Parliament two days before.

This year’s elections not only mean a change of government but also the Executive power must determine new names for the ministerial positions that must be replaced due to the politicians’ decision to face the elections as pre-candidates.

“It is defined who will occupy some of the places,” the president announced this Sunday, while enjoying the Melo Carnival, regarding the positions that will have to be filled in the Ministry of Social Development, Tourism and Defending – although the latter already has a name – because its ministers decided to participate in this year’s elections.

There are still two definitions

The definitions will be known starting March 4, two days after the president faces the general Assembly in it Parliament, moment that set a deadline for his ministers to keep their jobs. After this date, the leaders will resign to dedicate themselves to their political careers.

In addition to García, another minister who will step away from management is Martin Lema, head of Social Development, who anticipated that he would leave “between March and April”, although everything indicates that he will also make his departure official on Monday the 4th. In this case, his successor is not yet defined.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Tourism, Tabare Viera, is another of those who will leave office, in his case to compete as a presidential pre-candidate in the internal Colorado Party. Not only is it not known who will succeed him, but also the exact departure date, although it is estimated that it will be once the season ends.

García’s replacement is already known

The Minister of Defense will leave the portfolio, return to the Senate and he already has his successor confirmed. This is the leader of the National Party, Armando Castaingdebat.

The politician is 64 years old and is a veterinarian, active in the National Party since 1988 and was mayor of Flores in two periods, between 2005 and 2014, the year in which he was elected deputy, for which he assumed his position in February 2015.

After leaving the Parliament, was named by Lacalle Pou as Undersecretary of Social Development, position that he left on May 3, 2021, due to the assumption as Minister of Motto, who is his son-in-law.

He currently works as Director of Promotion and Development of the Municipality of Flores, a position that he will leave on March 4 to replace García as head of the Ministry of National Defense.
