The attempt to catch an alleged burglar ended with an emergency medical call for a 25-year-old and her stepfather on Monday. The young woman from Thalgau was seriously injured by a shot fired from her stepfather’s rifle. She had to be taken to the Kepler University Hospital in Linz by emergency helicopter.
A shot was fired in the anteroom
It was around 2 p.m. when the 25-year-old, who was visiting Pasching (Linz-Land district), heard unusual noises and feared that a burglar had come into the house. She informed her stepfather of her suspicions. The 62-year-old didn’t hesitate for long, took a small-caliber rifle that he legally owned from the garage and checked. The stepdaughter followed him. As she walked past him, according to initial statements, a shot was fired for an unknown reason and hit the woman in the area of her left arm and stomach.

No danger to life
The 62-year-old immediately put down the weapon, called emergency services and began first aid measures. Several police patrols were called to the house. When the officers arrived, the emergency doctor was already treating the injured 25-year-old. The young woman was finally flown to the Kepler University Hospital in Linz by rescue helicopter “Christophorus 10”. According to the treating doctor, there was never any danger to life.

The long gun, a rifle (Category C), was seized by the police in the anteroom. A provisional weapons ban was issued against the 62-year-old and a total of four firearms were seized. After consultation with the Linz public prosecutor’s office, the man is reported to be at large, the police announced on Monday evening. There was no burglar in the house.
