Things are currently going well for track and field athlete Olivia Benesch from the Welser Police Sports Club (PSV): The young talent was crowned Austrian all-around U18 champion in the Tips Arena in Linz. The last time PSV won all-around gold was in 2009, thanks to none other than Ivona Dadic from Wels. As reported, Dadic had to admit defeat to Verena Mayr in the all-around competition at the weekend. Sarah Lagger came third.
Benesch went into the competition with a win and a personal best in the 60 meter hurdles (8.96 s), thereby laying the foundation for her start-to-finish victory. In the subsequent high jump she kept the competition at a distance with 1.60 meters. She won the next discipline in the shot put with a very good 12.69 meters. In the long jump she jumped close to her best performance (5.42 meters) in her last attempt and maintained her lead. In the final 800 meter run she had a small advantage over her pursuers from Vienna. With a courageous race, she was able to set a new personal best of 3:00.29 minutes and ultimately celebrate the first all-around gold of her career. Just three weeks ago, the woman from Wels became state champion in the long jump (5.51 m), the shot put (12.79 m) and the 60-meter hurdles (9.12 s), making her the most successful U18 participant.
