A season opener that can hardly be imagined better was achieved by 15-year-old David Hammer in Obertilliach in East Tyrol. The young biathlete from the ranks of the SU Bad Leonfelden secured victory in the first race of the Austria Cup with only two shooting errors and a very good mileage. Thanks to a tactically excellent race division, Hammer was able to use his full potential at the shooting range and won with a lead of more than 30 seconds over second-placed Magnus Steiner from Tyrol.
In the pursuit race that took place on the following day, the Mühlviertler could not quite repeat this excellent performance, but with third place he again delivered an all-round solid result.
Due to these good performances, the young athlete’s first international appearances in the Alpine Cup are on the agenda for the coming weekend. The student at competitive sports Borg Linz has set himself a lot for this: “I am already looking forward to finally being able to compete with young people from other Alpine countries! “
