The research team showed that the levels of the enzyme MMP8 in the blood increased in stressed mice. “We also found the same change in patients with depression,” said scientist Flurin Cathomas. In studies on humans, the researchers now want to gain further insights into the interaction between the brain, immune system and psyche.
