There are already more than 46 such flexible work spaces in the country – and the number is increasing, says Andreas Höllinger, co-initiator and chairman of the Rohrbach Chamber of Commerce.

The “Coworking Upper Austria” platform founded in St. Martin is a further step towards the professionalization of a flourishing industry. Long gone are the days when coworking spaces were only considered a habitat for start-up founders or individual entrepreneurs. The growth of shared offices is driven by megatrends such as individualization, climate change or urbanization – and of course the realization that coworking is an optimal offer in an increasingly flexible working world. An important factor in the growth of coworking lies in demographics: “Gen Z” – born in the mid-1990s – will account for almost 25 percent of the global workforce this year. This generation is increasingly turning its back on the traditional office.

The platform’s members are planning a series of events and projects to raise awareness of coworking and create synergies. This includes a “Day of Open Coworking Spaces”, planned for October 1, 2024. “Through the combination of flexible workstations, networking opportunities and creative impulses, coworking spaces are engines of economic and social progress in Upper Austria,” concludes Andreas Höllinger.
