The guilty verdict is not legally binding. The 39-year-old was charged with grossly negligent homicide, grossly negligent grievous bodily harm and grossly negligent bodily harm. The defendant has always denied the allegations.

The man, who comes from Serbia, is said to have ignored hygiene regulations and not carried out the repairs ordered by the food inspector for financial reasons. “It was completely clear that the listeria came from your company,” said the single judge when justifying the verdict.
Partial aspects of the procedure were eliminated on Thursday. This affected two listeria infections that were originally included in the criminal complaint, as well as the newly added allegations of infidelity, coercion and completed and attempted bodily harm. These points are to be discussed at the regional court in Wiener Neustadt on March 14th. Several other witnesses will also be questioned that day.
