Will it be tight for Bayern coach Tuchel?

“We’ll get out of this together.” Bayern Munich’s sporting director Christoph Freund did not want to allow discussions about coach Thomas Tuchel to arise after the 0-1 defeat in the first leg of the round of 16 at Lazio Rome. However, there has long been speculation in the German media about possible successors.

On Saturday, Bayern lost the Bundesliga top duel in Leverkusen (0-3), the last time they lost two competitive games in a row was two years ago. This threatens to be the first season without a title since 2011/12. The defeat in Rome was the tenth defeat under Tuchel in the 43rd game. Predecessor Julian Nagelsmann had lost that many times in 84 games. Freund is at least officially convinced that things will “get better again” with Tuchel: “Of course he is also struggling with the situation because he wants to see the team completely differently on the pitch.”

This was not the first time that Tuchel had described the way out of the crisis. “It just goes together. There’s no point in pointing fingers at each other.” Captain Manuel Neuer agreed: “We need experiences of success, we need moments of success. It’s all about victories, about goals, about the security you get.” Things have to move forward on Sunday in the Bundesliga in Bochum.

“This is despicable”

Dayot Upamecano started the defeat at Lazio Rome with an unnecessary foul in the penalty area: he saw red, Ciro Immobile converted the penalty. Bavaria’s CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen condemned renewed racist attacks against the 25-year-old Frenchman on social media: “This is despicable. This type of racist mob is not our world.”
