To start in the World Cup for the first time and to duel with the world’s best ski crossers. Christoph Danksagmüller has been working towards this big goal for a long time. At the home races on the Reiteralm − from February 22nd to 25th − the time has finally come. “The anticipation is huge,” says the 21-year-old from Mondsee.
“Privilege” of the home nation
However, the focus is currently on the European Cup races in San Pellegrino, Italy. By the time we arrive at the Reiteralm next week at the latest, all thoughts would be about the World Cup debut. The silver medalist from the 2023 Junior World Championships doesn’t see himself without a chance. “I have to be fully present physically and mentally and not make any mistakes in the qualification. Then a lot is possible,” says Danksagmüller and adds: “I’ve already achieved one or two good results at the Reiteralm.”
Due to the home nation’s “privilege” of being able to send more athletes to the start, the one-off World Cup excursion remains. For now. Danksagmüller wants to make it into the squad of the Austrian ski cross elite through the overall ranking of the European Cup. “For that to happen, I have to be in the top three at the end of the season,” he says.
