The former ÖFB team boss should first lead Kosovo into the B league of the Nations League and then to their first participation in a final round. The goal is the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada, which will be expanded to 48 teams.
“For me it is a great honor to work for a country again as a national coach. We first want to be first in the group in the Nations League. After that, our big goal is to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. We will work hard together for that,” explained the German. “I have a clear plan and a clear strategy,” said Foda.
Historic success with the ÖFB team
Foda was team boss in Austria from January 2018 to the end of March 2022 and led the ÖFB selection to a historic success at the 2021 European Championship. After the first win by an Austrian team at a European Championship finals (3-1 against North Macedonia) and another success (1-0 against Ukraine), Austria made it into the round of 16 for the first time. After a strong performance, Alaba and Co. only had to admit defeat to eventual European champions Italy 1-2 after extra time.
Before that, Foda celebrated success in Austria with Sturm Graz as a player and coach. As a player, he won two championship titles with the Styrians (1998, 1999) and made three appearances in the Champions League. As a coach, he led Sturm to the title in 2011.
