Müller celebrated his fourth World Cup victory in the single-seater, Steu/Koller prevailed on the same track like last weekend and extended their lead in the overall ranking with their third joint World Cup success. Selina Egle/Lara Kipp came fourth among the women.
European champion Müller set the best time in both runs and won ahead of the Germans Max Langenhan (+0.076 seconds) and Felix Loch (+0.098). Kindl followed in fourth place (+0.365), David Gleirscher (+0.472) and Nico Gleirscher (+0.504) took seventh and eighth place. “I really like the rhythm of the track. Physically it’s going well, material-wise it’s going extremely well, it was super fast,” explained Müller from Vorarlberg, who is still clearly in second place behind Langenhan in the overall World Cup.
Steu/Kindl narrowly defended their lead after the first round and prevailed 0.073 seconds ahead of Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt and 0.119 seconds ahead of Hannes Orlamünder/Paul Constantin Gubitz. World champions Juri Gatt/Riccardo Schöpf finished sixth, Yannick Müller/Armin Frauscher were tenth (+0.700).
“Brilliant! Again in Oberhof, again just ahead of the Germans, you can almost feel sorry for them,” commented Steu on the next success. “It wasn’t perfect runs, but the speed was right,” he added. “The material is enormous,” praised Kindl. Before the remaining four races in the overall World Cup, the duo now leads Wendl/Arlt by 126 points.
In the women’s doubles, world champions Egle/Kipp improved by one place in the second run, but were unable to intervene in the thousandth decision for victory. The Germans Dajana Eitberger/Saskia Schirmer celebrated their first World Cup victory with a lead of 0.008 seconds over the Italians Andrea Vötter/Marion Oberhofer, while their compatriots Jessica Degenhardt/Cheyenne Rosenthal were another thousandth behind. Egle/Kipp fell back to fourth place in the overall ranking.
