Two long-time family representatives will take on this role in the future, according to a statement published on Wilson’s website. “This decision was made so that there would be no extreme changes in the household and so that Brian and the children living at home could remain at home and be cared for,” the statement said.

“Brian will be able to enjoy the company of all his family and friends, continue working on current projects and participate in any activities of his choosing.” According to People magazine, Wilson was suffering from a “neurocognitive disorder such as dementia” in a court filing.

Wilson’s wife Melinda Ledbetter died at the end of January at the age of 77. The couple adopted five children together, and Wilson also had two children from a previous marriage. Wilson became famous worldwide with the band The Beach Boys and hits like “Surfin’ USA.” According to many critics, “Pet Sounds” was the “best pop album of the 20th century” in 1966. Even Paul McCartney once said that the album inspired him to write the Beatles’ masterpiece “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”
