The Upper Austrian prevailed in a Super-G sprint by 0.17 seconds ahead of Canadian Jeffrey Read and retained the arithmetic chance of snatching the small crystal ball from Marco Odermatt. The Swiss came third on Sunday with Dominik Paris, and there will be a Super-G at the final in Saalbach. Odermatt has de facto secured the overall World Cup trophy.

Especially in the lower part, he was “pretty much at the limit because I surfed the left-hand bend in the middle section with havoc. Kriechmayr emphasized that his second place in the downhill race the day before gave him additional self-confidence. “After the classics, I always approached it very tensely. Now I just wanted to ride every race hop or drop, push hard. At the moment I’m doing that very well.” Odermatt is 81 points ahead of the Upper Austrian in the standings, who therefore needs a win in the final. “This is only a theoretical opportunity now. He won’t let that be taken away with his class.”

There were also points for Raphael Haaser (+0.35) in ninth place (after start number 50), Christoph Krenn and Stefan Babinsky (both +0.60) as ex-aequo-15. and Lukas Feurstein (+0.62), who was in 17th place. Otmar Striedinger was eliminated.
Odermatt is now almost certain of his third victory in the overall World Cup. Purely mathematically, four more athletes – Cyprien Sarrazin, Manuel Feller, Kriechmayr and Loic Meillard – could overtake the 26-year-old. But that would require victories in all eleven remaining races, while Odermatt is unlikely to score any points, which is extremely unrealistic.
