Due to a chronic shortage of specialists, the maternity ward and the gynecology department at the Waidhofen/Ybbs State Hospital are to be closed from March 24th. Regarding this decision by the state health agency, the state councilor responsible for hospitals, Ludwig Schleritzko (VP), said in the Kurier that this decision to no longer continue to operate the ward was accepted, but that the health agency was given a clear mandate to provide every expectant mother with the best possible care let.
While Waidhofen’s mayor Werner Krammer (VP) also regretted the decision but could understand it, criticism came from the SP: State Councilor Sven Hergovich called for a stop to the thinning of rural areas by the black-blue state leadership. The nearest maternity wards are in Steyr, Amstetten and Scheibbs.
